I completed the female avatar, and I am reasonably happy with the results. Next step is to unwrap both avatars, and start working on some textures. The textures will be a little different for this project, since they are designed to be overlayed onto other layers.

I'm quite happy with the combinations that are possible, it should look even better once I get detail textures applied.
